Shintoku Town Dairy Farm and Cheese Factory Tour
This tour takes place in Shintoku Town, a mountainous area in the northwestern end of Tokachi. You will visit Hokkoh Farm to learn about the work they do and experience part of it for yourself. You can also try your hand at making mozzarella cheese, and taste the farm’s dairy products that include a yogurt drink and cheese. Afterwards, you will visit the Ezorisu Valley Cheese Company to see how they make their award-winning cheese.
The tour begins at Hokkoh Farm, a dairy megafarm that raises over 900 cattle. The farm staff will take you around their site, from the cattle barns to the milking facilities. It is a great opportunity to learn about the dairy industry in Hokkaido.
You can also experience the work done by the farm by helping them feed their calves with milk. The adorable sight of the calves as they suck on the feeding bottles will surely melt your heart.
After the calf feeding, you will experience making mozzarella cheese using the milk curds produced by the farm. You can then try the farm’s dairy original dairy products such as fresh milk and a yogurt drink, marketed under their brand Hokkoh Milk. Another popular product produced using Hokkoh Farm’s milk is the cheese of the Ezorisu Valley Cheese Company. Try their various types of cheese and find your favorite.
Lastly, you will visit the factory of Ezorisu Valley Cheese Company, just a few minutes away by car from Hokkoh Farm. Here you can learn about how they make their award-winning cheese from their master cheesemaker. As a souvenir, you can take home their popular freeze-dried cheese. You can also choose to buy their other cheeses if you wish.
